There is no treasure like friends — Mivchar Hapeninim

The word havurah comes from the Hebrew word haver, meaning friend. A Havurah is a small group of 10-12 couples or families or up to 20 individuals who meet throughout the year, often in each others’ homes, to socialize, celebrate Jewish life, study, work on volunteer or social action projects or attend synagogue activities together.

One Havurah, for example, might enjoy a Shabbat dinner together or build a Sukkah, while another goes camping or on a retreat. One group may invite a speaker to discuss a chosen topic while another may engage in a special mitzvot project. Whatever you and your fellow haverim (friends) decide is meaningful is what you will do.

A Havurah creates a smaller community within the larger Temple Beth El congregation, allowing us to form deeper bonds, support one another during life’s important moments and share experiences. For new members, a Havurah is a wonderful way to develop an extended family at TBE.
